A website needs regular care after launch. This is the checklist I would use for a small Irish business to keep the site secure, fast and useful.
1. Check updates and compatibility
Review WordPress, theme and plugin updates regularly. After updates, test the important forms, menus, checkout and integrations instead of assuming everything still works.
2. Keep reliable backups
Keep automatic backups in a separate location and confirm that a restore is possible. A backup that has never been tested is not a complete recovery plan.
3. Review security and access
Remove unused accounts, use strong passwords and enable two-factor authentication where possible. Check for suspicious admin users, outdated plugins and unusual login activity.
4. Test speed and mobile usability
Test the website on a real phone. Check that text is readable, buttons are easy to tap and images are compressed. Slow pages can reduce enquiries and make it harder to compete in local search.
5. Refresh content and SEO
Update outdated prices, services, contact details and opening hours. Review titles, meta descriptions, internal links and broken pages at least every few months.
A simple monthly routine
Once a month, run updates in a staging or low-risk window, check backups, test forms, review analytics and scan for broken links. If you do not have time to manage this, a website care and maintenance plan can keep the work consistent.
